My friend sent me a link to a music video he thought may be of interest to me. He knows I am a fan of Kanye West, Drake, and Lady Gaga’s artistic choices, which is why he sent me this clip riot music video by a band called Dark Light. The single is called “Still Winter” which is fitting for such a chilling song, and video. It is very artistic, different, and impressive for two self-made up-and-comers. Thumbs up! They even have a website for their new album in the works called Dark Light – Nouvo Sound I believe. Not bad at all.

Justin Bieber has recently released a new single and video called “Boyfriend.” Some may be wondering why I am talking about this young megastar. Well, he is a megastar, Canadian, and working hard for the attention, so I do not see any reason why I should withhold it from him. What struck me in this video is that Bieber is putting his “baby” days behind him, literally. A slight voice-drop is occurring and facial morphing would indicate puberty. To the dismay of many a frantic 6-year-old, their beloved Bieber is becoming a man.

My parents love to cook. They aren’t professionals, but in a sense they could’ve been. While my mother was great with African and finer French cuisine, my father preferred preparing Asian dishes. As children, my siblings and I preferred cereal, pasta, burgers and pizza. I do feel sorry for my parents and now try to make it up to them by showing my appreciation for every meal we share and by learning all of their great cooking tips, and sharing my own.

I used to be the family baker and would make crepes, pancakes, madeleines, and birthday cakes. I loved it and treated it like an art. Now that I am more aware of the thing I do, I have been more adventurous with my recipe selections, and have tried to vary the preparation and ingredient selection to get to the best results. One thing I found is that many of my favorite baked goods use the same ingredients: flour, butter, eggs, sugar. Luckily, I found the perfect way to mix them all together and get no lumps! Lumps. If you’ve ever made crepes, you know what a nightmare lumps can be. Well, I learned to make lump-less batters and passed this wisdom onto my parents, who were enlightened.

When making a pound cake or crepes, the first ingredient you want to mix, in this order, are the sugar, the eggs, and melted butter. When a recipe calls for butter, I do not recommend using shortening or margarine. I have made a variety of cakes using these substitutes and found that the consistency, fluffiness, and flavoring of the cakes were best with butter. It’s a simple old-fashioned ingredient, and the best for a reason.

When your mixture is smooth, gradually add the flour, depending on the quantity, 1/4 cup at a time more or less. I mix from the center rotating in one direction, then scrape the edges gently adn bring the flour back to the center, and return to the center now mixing in the other direction. Do this gradually, and add milk or whatever liquid is involved, if any, when the batter gets too think. Do this gradually and you will have a smooth batter. Then you can add oil, baking powder, salt, or whatever is left. I hope this tip helps!

I tend to look into American politics from time to time. I find it entertaining. I guess I feel this way because I no longer live in the United States, so it is fun to see its downfall from the other side, with a bucket of popcorn. I have recently seen many videos surfacing of President Barack Obama, naturally, campaigning for his re-election. What surprises me is his discourse and how it seems to cater to, exclusively I’d say, the younger voters.

An interesting Radiolab podcast featured stories about various subjects relating to online communication, the evolution in the field of robotics, and a reflection on artificial intelligence. The whole episode made me wonder if maybe the more we use electronic intermediaries to communicate with one another, the more we lose touch with reality and humanity, or rather the more we transfer it over to electronics and robots.

The summer is announcing itself, sort of. It seems Winter is embarrassed for having been so easy on us this year and won’t let go so quickly. I am growing tired of this on-off cold weather and am dancing for the Weather Gods, pleading them to “Let My Sunshine Go.” Every summer I take a trip, a week off to enjoy life and discover new places. This year, I know I want to travel in August. The problem is I don’t know where to go. Last year, I went to a few places to make up for a 3-year long travel-less streak.  I visited London England, Paris France, and Rome Italy.
